“Celebrating the Spirit of Revival"
HISTORY

In 1962, The Peoples’ Church was founded on Barracks Row as a hospital for those who were wounded in spirit.  Two visionaries, Reverends Fred and Charlotte Hall transformed an abandoned and dilapidated movie theater into a refuge of comfort and healing.

MISSION

For over four decades, the unchanging mission of The Peoples’ Church has been to follow the words of Christ; "Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.“

As The Peoples’ Church approaches the half-century mark, we celebrate the spirit of revival of Barracks Row with a renewed commitment to minister to our neighbors on Capitol Hill.

Over the past 44 years, The Peoples’ Church has grown and developed ministries for its members and the community:

Educational Assistance – The Peoples’ Church provides scholarships to our members who are full-time college students.  In Fall 2006, educational grants were awarded to 12 young people.

Youth Ministry – The Peoples’ Church has developed a comprehensive community- based program for mentoring youth from infancy through high school graduation that includes Children’s Community Bible Workshop, Vacation Bible Camp and Friday night teen events.

Seniors Ministry – The Peoples’ Church offers a variety of senior services including visitation to shut-ins and residential care facilities, seniors’ health benefit advocacy and family counseling.

Community Evangelism – The Peoples’ Church has a long-standing commitment to one-on-one outreach to individuals and families of the Capitol Hill community.

Prison Ministry – Since 1962 The Peoples’ Church have ministered to inmates of the DC prison system.

Worldwide Missions – The Peoples’ Church financially supports Christian ministries and relief organizations throughout the world.

Racial Justice - For many decades, The Peoples’ Church has been a key financial supporter of African Enterprise, which waged a successful struggle against Apartheid in South Africa.

Ministerial Development – In the course of 44 years, The Peoples’ Church has trained and supported ministers, evangelists and missionaries who have gone on to establish their own churches and ministries.  The Fred W. Hall Theological Studies Scholarship is part of the ministerial development program and is awarded to members preparing to enter the ministry through full-time enrollment at a Bible college or seminary.

Bible Reading Marathon – The Peoples’ Church is organizer of the annual U. S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon.  Pastor Michael Hall is the Executive Director of the International Bible Reading Association that promotes individual Bible study as well as Bible reading marathons worldwide.
